Job Summary:
The Occupational Health Specialist is responsible for coordinating and implementing occupational health programs within the organization. This role focuses on assessing and improving workplace conditions to ensure the health and safety of employees, preventing occupational diseases, and promoting overall well-being. The Occupational Health Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and maintain effective occupational health policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of workplace environments, including physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic factors, to identify potential health hazards.
2. Develop and implement strategies to control and mitigate workplace hazards and risks, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
3. Advise and educate management, supervisors, and employees on occupational health matters, including best practices and preventive measures.
4. Design and deliver training programs related to occupational health, including the identification and proper use of personal protective equipment.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and analyze occupational health incidents, accidents, and near misses, providing recommendations for prevention and corrective actions.
6. Coordinate and conduct regular inspections and audits of work areas to ensure compliance with occupational health guidelines.
7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of occupational health programs through data analysis, trend identification, and reporting.
8. Stay updated on current occupational health research, developments, and regulations, and proactively propose improvements to existing programs and protocols.
9. Maintain accurate and confidential records of occupational health incidents, assessments, and interventions.
10. Foster a culture of safety and health awareness by promoting employee engagement and participation in occupational health initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Public Health, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Proven experience in occupational health, preferably within the public health sector.
3. Strong knowledge of occupational health regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices.
4. Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and the ability to identify and analyze workplace hazards.
5. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex information to diverse audiences.
6. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
7. Proficient in conducting training sessions and developing educational materials.
8. Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
9. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
10. Proficient in using relevant software applications and databases to maintain accurate records and generate reports.
